Women’s stock maintains a perfect start
The Slippery Rock women’s lacrosse team continued their 100% start to the season by comfortably beating Ursuline College 24-2.
The Rock, who opened their season with a victory over Shepherd University earlier in the month, recorded the most successful start to the season since 2018. The result against Ursuline was also the biggest margin of victory in almost eight years.
The Rock had a blistering start to the game, scoring four times in the first three minutes. Charleigh Rondeau was the standout performer, as she broke the program record for most draw checks in a single game, finishing with seventeen.
Camryn Whipple and Emily Benham also dazzled throughout, while Krysta Frankowski picked up her first collegiate points, scoring twice. Brooke Wisniewski scored four times and Katie Dlugosz provided three assists. The quality displayed throughout the team provides enthusiasm and optimism for the rest of the campaign.
The end result mirrored how the match unfolded, with The Rock dotting the opposition goal 41-6 on total shots and 24-5 on total checks from the tie.
Interim lacrosse head coach Taryn Burkholder will be confident going into the rest of the season after watching her team easily dispatch Ursuline in a dominant and controlling fashion.
Taryn, who joined the program in January 2021 as an assistant coach, took the interim reins in August 2021 following the departure of head coach Kelsey Van Alstyne, and certainly hasn’t hurt herself in regarding his connection to permanent employment after the team’s no-fault start.
Game 1 of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) begins March 16 in Erie when Mercyhurst University hosts The Rock.
