Surf rock guitar pioneer RIP Dick Dale dies aged 81
Dick dale, the surf rock guitar pioneer who was best known for his 1962 hit “Misirlou”, has died at the age of 81.
He died on Saturday night, Dale bassist Sam Bolle confirmed to The Guardian.
You know the song these days through the movie pulp Fiction.
But it is evident that its effect on popular guitar playing has been felt from afar and we are pretty sure that many guitarists have fallen in love with its sound and will pay a fitting tribute to a fallen hero.
Here’s what Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson had to say:
I am sorry to hear of the passing of Dick Dale. Dick’s guitar playing was a big influence on all of us, and we covered “Misirlou” on our album Surfin ‘USA in ’63. Love and mercy to Dick’s family. pic.twitter.com/QPd2wzo7zB

#DickDale deceased. He came to California as a kid, imitated Elvis in Hollywood, invented surf rock, played electric guitar with a vigor no one had, and played it louder than anyone (thanks to L Fender ). I lived with tigers, I wrote songs that kill, I surfed well, I went through cancer. Helluva guy. pic.twitter.com/VFWiZuLPz1
